Coding & programming

Much of what your car does is controlled by software in its control units. We code and program those units, from activating features and adapting modules to reading and adjusting engine software. Because the options differ from car to car, this work starts with a quote request: tell us your license plate and what you would like done.

Coding & feature activation

Many cars have features that are already there but switched off in the software. By coding the relevant control unit, we turn such a feature on or change a setting, for example how the central locking behaves. Coding is often needed after new equipment has been installed too, so the car recognizes it and does not show a fault message.

Programming & adapting modules

A modern car has dozens of control units, or modules, that each control part of the car. When a module is replaced, with a new or a used one, the car often only accepts it once it has been adapted and loaded with the right software. If a function does not work or fault messages appear after a module has been replaced, this step is probably missing.

PROXI alignment & configuration

Some makes record a car's equipment in a central configuration file, known as PROXI, that all the modules share. When that file no longer matches what is actually installed, features can drop out or warnings can appear. A PROXI alignment brings the configuration back in line, so all modules work from the same equipment list. It is often needed after a module has been replaced or equipment has been added or removed.

ECU diagnostics & programming

The ECU is the engine control unit, the computer that runs your engine. If the check engine light comes on, the engine runs rough or the car drops into limp mode, we read out the ECU's fault codes and live data to find the cause. Programming is needed when the ECU has been replaced or its software has to be reloaded.

Stage 1 chip tuning

Chip tuning, also known as remapping, means reading the software from the engine control unit and adjusting the engine calibration. Stage 1 means only the software changes: the mechanical parts of the engine stay original. Before we adjust the software, we read the fault codes and check that the engine runs without faults. Modified engine software can affect your car insurance and any remaining manufacturer warranty, so let your insurer know about it.
